In any event, the idol was cute and we were in and out in less than an hour and back on our way. Thankfully, we didn’t really have to wait too long. Devotees mostly don’t give a damn about decency in queues and push away unless you threaten to turn violent or invoke divine retribution. The temple had been ravaged more than a few times by marauding Shahs over the centuries, but has stood its ground.Sadly, Temples in Gujarat and Rajasthan tend to create needless bottlenecks to increase queue sizes by closing the sanctum every half an hour. We continued on to Dwarka and made a visit to the temple. We were much excited, but our ornithological illiteracy was a severe impediment to serious exploration. Completely unbeknownst to us, we chanced upon the Charakla salt pans that have also become a bird sanctuary. The ride was more or less due west on roads straight as an arrow for the most part.
